iOS Shared Reminders as a Grocery List

There are tons of shared grocery list websites / apps out there; it’s a very simple project technically. I looked at a bunch options and always found some aspect missing. As usual, I considered building my own, but it really wasn’t worth the effort.

The solution I found is really simple (as long as you’re happy in the Apple ecosystem) and works exactly as I want. Just use Apple’s Reminders. You can also open the Reminders app on your Mac.

Create a new list and share it with others in your household. What makes this work are 2 key things:

  1. Changes are pushed to other people’s phones automatically
  2. When I’m in the store and I tick off an item, it disappears from the list – this makes it really easy to see what’s remaining

At home, I just add things as I think about it, then either of us can pick them up.
